I'm in the same grade, I'm a male though. Looking away shows him you have interest. Don't go Chasing after him though, as you stated he has plenty of girls trying that. Let him come after you. But don't play hard to get. Just try talking to him a bit more. Texting is an amazing way to get to know him. It's much easier to say what you want to.
